Together We Make a Difference

Maryland Horse Rescue began in 2000 addressing the need for a rescue that would take in equines from any situation.

Our Mission

Our founder’s first horse came from a badly abusive situation, but despite his horrible past, she taught him to become rideable. As years passed, she grew more and more disheartened as she watched people buy and sell horses like used appliances; it just didn’t seem right. The search for the “perfect” horse meant many horses were being “thrown away”. She found this tragic and it just seemed to her that someone needed to act as a safety “Net” for those horses, so “HorseNet” was born. In 2016 HorseNet Horse Rescue was rebranded as Maryland Horse Rescue. Our mission is still the same,  to facilitate the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of abused and abandoned horses.

We firmly believe that every horse can perform a job of some kind, no matter what their limitation, and that they all deserve a second chance. This is the basis on which Maryland Horse Rescue will continue.

Maryland Horse Rescue is a certified 501 (c)(3) nonprofit located in Westminster, Maryland. We DO NOT sell horses, but facilitate the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of those animals in our care. We do have some long term residents, but strive to adopt out as many animals as possible to loving informed homes.

We are 100% volunteer run and operate solely on donations.

We specialize in the care of senior and blind horses, but will accept any equine(s) in need, from Animal Control, Humane Society and other organizations that need to save horses that are in danger.  We are currently unable to accept owner surrenders.

At this time, we are not taking in any new horses as we are at capacity.

MARYLAND HORSE RESCUE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Tina Davis

Director

Tina grew up in Sharpsburg, MD and has had a life long love for rescue horses and Arabians. She has rescued two horses from kill pens and was also the “angel” who transported Tucker from his abandoned farm to Maryland Horse Rescue. She enjoys getting to know the different personalities and qualities of the horses she meets. They all have a soft spot, you just have to find it.

Melanie Biemiller

President

Natalie Myrick

Vice President

Natalie grew up in Columbia, Maryland and has always loved animals, especially horses. She did not know much about them other than they were big and majestic. Being involved with Maryland Horse Rescue has been extremely rewarding for Natalie giving perspective into the unique personality of each horse. Natalie is looking forward to helping Maryland Horse Rescue to continue our efforts to save those we can, re-home those we can and loving all of them.
